Moondog Optics is an independent team of optical and opto-mechanical designers with a passion for finding clever, practical solutions to tough problems. Focus areas of Moondog include mobile cameras, 3D sensing, VR/AR display, projection, and life science. The power of  printed optics is utilized where possible to speed-up product and system development and to validate preliminary optics and tooling designs.

Injection-molded polymer optics have come a long way in the past decade. Incorporation of aspheric surfaces in plastics significantly increases the available degrees of freedom – enabling better performance, fewer elements, and unique form factors. Moondog Optics is a collective of leading independent experts in aspheric plastic optical design.

The team comes from some of the world’s leading optical companies, including Eastman Kodak, Corning, Leica, Jenoptik, Melles Griot, and Digital Optics. They display a broad background in optical system design for capture, display, and sensing applications. They’ve worked on everything from single-use cameras to 3D laser cinema projectors.
