Custom LED Optics by Luximprint
Leaving rich years of conventional optics fabrication behind, the Luximprint team initially got involved in the printed optics story back in 2009 when printed optics were initially invented by Luxexcel. The main aim was to eliminate the bottle-necks of traditional optics fabrication processes and formulate an answer to the actual inconveniences faced. By developing novel optical 3D printing methodologies, the fabrication of custom LED optics easy available for lighting professionals.
Multi-Market Prototyping for Lighting Applications
Over the last decade, a rich period of technology and market development took place, finally resulting in a separation of the multi-market prototyping activities (including illumination optics) business back in 2016. A rich history of additive optics fabrication brought us to where we are today, and we joyfully keep seeking for novel ways of improving the fabrication process, while at the same time lowering the bar for getting access to custom led optics, both for novel lighting system development or tailored project solutions.

Conventional vs. Digital Optics Fabrication
With zero manufacturing tooling involved, printed optics are generated directly from a CAD file. Prepared by our users or one of the optics experts from our global Optics Design Hub, the designed 3D objects are meeting the specifications of the Luximprint optical 3D printing process and, as a next step, the requirements for manufacturing large quantities of identical pieces (if applicable).
Design and Manufacturing Flexibility: Easy Product Variations – Iterations
Utilizing the flexibility of a digital manufacturing process, multiple product variations can be created easily along the way. Without physical tooling constraints involved, the design freedom can be used to trial and error with multiple potential lens solutions in the same timeframe. Finally, the best matching solution can be taken and proceeded with to final fabrication tooling.

If during the assembly of the demonstrators/test set-up it is proven that the initial prototype(s) are not performing as expected, either the design can be tweaked or the manufacturing capabilities optimized, and a next version can be prototyped in days.
As a result of the faster and much more flexible optics processing, the speed of development cycles can go up, and the time to market can be much shorter.
Faceted Lens Technology
The arrival of mathematical design software solutions opened up a new era for custom optics fabrication. Faceted Lens Technology, initially invented by Physionary, goes today hand in hand with Luximprint custom LED optics fabrication, in special for those lenses with highly complicated surface textures.
